Kate shares new portrait taken by Prince Louis ahead of World Cancer Day

The Princess of Wales has shared a new portrait - taken by her six-year-old son, Prince Louis - ahead of World Cancer Day.

In the photo, Kate is seen standing on a fallen tree trunk in the woods with open arms and the royal looking towards the camera.

In the post on Monday, the princess also shared a quote which read: "Don't forget to nurture all that which lies beyond the disease."

It comes after Kate said in January that "it's a relief to now be in remission" from cancer after being diagnosed with an unspecified form of the disease last year.

The princess is making a gradual return to royal duties after finishing treatment last September, and carried out three engagements last week.

She underwent a course of preventative chemotherapy after the cancer was found following major abdominal surgery in January 2024.

It also comes after it emerged in reports that the Princess of Wales wanted the public's attention to move away from her outfits and towards the causes she supports.

Sky News understands details of Kate's outfits will no longer be released when the royal makes appearances.

While a Kensington Palace source told The Sunday Times they understand "there will always be an appreciation" for Kate's outfits "from some of the public," they added: "Do we need to be officially always saying what she is wearing? No.

"The style is there but it's about the substance."

Speaking to Sky News on Sunday, former editor-in-chief of British Vogue, Alexandra Shulman, said it was no surprise, having worked with the princess before.

"It's about re-examining your life," she added. "When people have gone through what she's gone through, they should be entitled to be seen how they want to be seen... with a serious mission - not where the focus is on her clothes."

Kate made her first solo public engagement since returning to official duties as she visited the Royal Marsden Hospital last month.

During the visit, she thanked the hospital "for looking after me so well during the past year" and met with patients and staff.

On 30 January, she made a solo visit to Ty Hafan Children's Hospice, near Cardiff - where she had just been named patron.
