Tudor Markets confirmed to run Dudley Market for next two years

Tudor Markets has been given a two-year contract extension to continue running Dudley Market – after increasing stall occupancy by 13 per cent since taking it on.

Dudley Council bosses have taken up the option of extending the initial two-year contract and Tudor will now manage the market until the end of June 2021, after which it will be re-tendered.

Tudor took over the running of the market after being given a two-year contract in March 2017, with the option for a two-year extension subject to performance. Latest figures show stall occupancy rates are up 13 per cent for July 2018 to June this year, compared to July 2016 to June 2017.

Tudor has relocated its offices from London to Dudley, leasing a council building, and also recruited five local staff members as well as investing in the market and supporting town centre events. Councillor Ian Kettle, cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise, said:

"I am confident that traders and shoppers alike will be pleased with our decision that Tudor Markets should continue working with us for another two years.

"The market is the beating heart of Dudley town and I am confident that together we will continue to make some fantastic improvements there."

James Willis, managing director at Tudor Markets, added:

"Dudley Market is a colourful and vibrant market that attracts thousands of shoppers every year. We are delighted to be able to continue our work with Dudley Council and I am confident that we will continue to build upon the market’s popularity over the next two years."

Meanwhile, the council has employed a contractor to carry out a deep clean of Dudley town centre. It will take place at night so it does not disrupt traders or shoppers. For more information about Dudley Market people can visit dudley.gov.uk.
