Stourbridge MP, Suzanne Webb has urged the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner to intervene and resurrect fallen through plans for a police presence in the town.

Ms Webb, says she has been campaigning for officers to be based locally since she was elected, after Stourbridge Police Station closed in 2017. Discussions between Dudley Council and the police on a permanent site for police to be stationed in Stourbridge have reached a stalemate. Suzanne said:

“I was disappointed to learn that plans for a new police presence in Stourbridge have fallen through. There was real optimism in the spring when I understand talks between Dudley Borough Council and the police were close to an agreement on the location of a new permanent base in the town.

“It would be beneficial for my constituents if we could all agree that it would be hugely important for the town to bring back a police presence, especially given the serious incident at the Ryemarket Car Park in March this year.

“For some time now, it has been a clear and accepted truth that Stourbridge needs a permanent police base, and it should be a priority for West Midlands Police to conclude this matter.

The MP asked the PPC to give the matter his “full attention" so that people living in and around Stourbridge can feel safe and protected where they live, adding that she would be happy to meet to discuss the matter further.
