Residents invited to have a say on the future of a Quarry Bank park

Borough residents who use Stevens Park, Quarry Bank, are being asked their views about the future of the facility.

Following first phase agreement by the heritage lottery fund, Dudley Council is now looking at moving the project onto the next phase and want user’s views to determine how they feel they can contribute to the project. Any expenditure is dependent upon whether the heritage lottery fund bid is successful, at the next stage.

The money would be used to make a number of improvements including the restoration of the Whitehouse building on Park Road, to include a community cafe and community meeting space, as well as work to the park’s bandstand, paths and entrance features. It would also pay for the development of a horticultural training project, heritage interpretation around the area,  bio-diversity improvements and school and community activities.

Everyone who uses the park, or would like to use the park, is asked to complete a short online questionnaire to ensure their views are taken into account. Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for environmental services said:

“This is a great opportunity for anyone who uses, or lives by, Stevens Park to take part in this important consultation to determine the future development of the Stevens Park green space. We want to ensure that it remains a place people use in their leisure time, helping to enrich their lives.

"The questionnaire only takes a couple of minutes and the information the council gathers will be invaluable to help determine our expenditure of the potential funding gained from the heritage lottery fund.

“Dudley Council is committed to maintaining our valuable parks and green spaces and this injection of cash will certainly help us to preserve and restore the much-loved aspects of Stevens Park.”
