RAF Spitfire Flypast Announced

A Royal Air Force Spitfire will grace the skies during this year’s Armed Forces Day event at Himley Hall and Park.

Armed Forces Day 2016, in association with Forces Recruitment Services, will be held at the prestigious Himley Hall and Park on Sunday June 26th to celebrate the work of current and ex-servicemen and women.

With just a few weeks to go, Dudley Council has announced there will be an RAF Battle of Britain Flight Memorial Spitfire flypast.

The iconic aeroplane played a major part in achieving ultimate victory in World War Two. It is probably the most successful fighter design ever and certainly is the most famous. The Spitfire will fly over the hall and park at approximately 1.55pm, weather permitting.

The event runs from 11am, admission to the event is free and there will be lots of fun activities to keep all the family entertained, including entertainment for children.

Included will also be a display of ex-military vehicles, civil war re-enactors, assault courses, fun rides, vintage fair and tea room, history displays and talks, an archery range and paintball gallery.

The popular youth marching band competition will kick off at 11am in the event’s main arena in front of the hall before the event’s formal proceedings start at around 2.30pm. The D-Day Darlings will sing tribute songs for the Queen’s 90th Birthday and veterans will be presented with service medals and badges.

There will also be performances by the RAF Cosford Voluntary Band and activities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Air Training Corps (ATC).

The Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Mohammed Hanif, said:

“It’s a great line up for this year’s Armed Forces Day with a wide range of activities to suit all the family and it is a real privilege to be having the flypast from the iconic Spitfire.

Anyone who has already received a veteran’s badge or a special campaign medal but has not had it formally presented to them before, can contact Dudley Council on 01384 816050 to have it formally presented at the event.
