Quinton police station set to reopen and Tipton saved from closure

Quinton Police Station

West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, Simon Foster, says he is ‘delighted’ to announce that a police base in Quinton is to be retained, for the benefit of the community.

Quinton station shut in March 2019 and will undergo a refurbishment before reopening in 2024.

The retained police base will house Neighbourhood Police Teams, who will be located within the community they are serving.

The move follows the launch of a new operational policing model, by the Chief Constable, earlier this year.

Quinton police base has been shut since 2019 because, following years of government cuts to policing, it was under-occupied.

It will now undergo a refurbishment and Neighbourhood Teams will be relocated in 2024. Simon said:

“When I was elected, I pledged to rebuild community policing – to keep people, families, businesses and communities, safe and secure – and this will help to do exactly that.

“I am delighted that Neighbourhood Officers will now have a base in Quinton, within the community they serve.”

He also confirmed that Tipton’s police base has been saved from closure and will be retained, for the benefit of the people and community.

The previous plan was to shut the building, as a consequence of cuts imposed by central government and because it was under used, but extra officers and staff are now being moved there instead.

The plan to retain the building, will ensure Neighbourhood Officers remain within the community they are there to protect and Response officers will also be nearby, should the public have an emergency.
