Police Officer Receives Commendation After Lifesaving Efforts

PC Steven Dunn was presented with a Royal Humane Society Resuscitation Certificate for his actions after performing CPR on an elderly woman in February.

He attemded the scene after an elderly woman from Dudley activated her telecare button stating she was on the floor and not able to get up.

Two telecare officers went to her house and could see her sitting on the floor and waving at them in distress, but they were unable to get access to the property.

They contacted the Police for assistance and PC Dunn was sent to the address.

As he arrived, he found the telecare workers already inside, after managing to get a spare set of keys from a neighbour.

The woman was leaning against a radiator and appeared lifeless. PC Dunn began performing CPR until paramedics arrived several minutes later.

The paramedics continued to try and resuscitate the woman, aided by PC Dunn. Although she was unconscious, they managed to regain a pulse and heart beat before she was taken to hospital.

It was later confirmed that had PC Dunn not attempted CPR, the lack of flow of oxygen could have resorted in brain damage.

Although the woman sadly passed away a few days later, PC Dunn’s actions gave her extra time with her family.
