A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a pedestrian who was hit by a vehicle in West Bromwich.

The suspect, who is 38, was arrested in Birmingham yesterday afternoon (17 March) in connection with the death of the 22-year-old.

Officers were called at around 2.40am yesterday and the seriously injured man was found on the High Street, near the junction with Trinity Way. He later died in hospital, and his family are being supported by specially trained officers. A forensic post mortem will take place in due course.

A VW Caddy van believed to have been involved in the collision was also recovered in the Birmingham area yesterday afternoon. Det Insp Harry Harrison, from the homicide team, said:

“We’re still trying to establish the detail of what happened, and what led up to the collision. I’d like to hear from anyone who saw any form of disorder in the George Street area, possibly involving an Asian man, at around the time.

“We’re also keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a VW Caddy van at around 2.30am in the area. Additionally, we’d urge anyone who had been in or around the Prince of Wales pub on the High Street, and who may have seen anything, to call us.”
