Dudley Council’s highway boss has thanked motorists for their patience as investigations to resolve a water leak on a road in Kingswinford continue.

A section of the carriageway on Stallings Lane has been affected by a leak underground, which has forced water up to the surface and damaged the integrity of the road.

Temporary traffic lights were installed earlier this year for the safety of motorists. The council is working with Severn Trent and South Staffs Water to investigate the problem and determine where the water could be coming from. Councillor Shaz Saleem, cabinet member for highways and public realm, said:

"I would like to thank motorists for their patience as we continue our investigations along Stallings Lane. I understand this can be frustrating, but I can assure people we are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

"Both Severn Trent and South Staffs Water have carried out investigations on site. Severn Trent has cleared blocked drains, which we thought may have been causing the problem, but this turned out not to be the case. Souths Staffs has confirmed the water is not coming from a source they manage.

"The council is now carrying out extensive investigations to find out where the water is coming from and we will endeavour to get the road repaired and fully open to the public as soon as the issue is resolved.

"For now, we must keep the temporary lights in place to protect the safety of motorists and I’d urge people to bear with us."
