Mayor’s winter walkers to shake off festive pounds

The Mayor of Dudley is inviting people to take part in his charity Winter Walk later this month.

Anyone can join in the circular walk, which starts and finishes at the Bonded Warehouse in Stourbridge, on Sunday January 28.

It will start at 10am and see walkers take in a seven mile round trip at their own pace to the Prestwood area along the canal. Dogs and children are welcome. Councillor Dave Tyler, Mayor of Dudley, said:

“After the Christmas festivities and over-indulgence lots of people start the new year with renewed enthusiasm to get fitter and slimmer. I hope that people will come on the sponsored walk to help kick start their fitness campaigns and meanwhile help raise money for three worthy charities.”

All profits from the walk will be donated to the Mayor of Dudley’s charities, which are Dudley Mind, the YMCA and Dudley Alzheimer’s Society.

There will also be the chance to snap up a copy of a calendar produced by local artists and photographers on behalf of the Mayor.Reflections: Photographs and Paintings of Dudley also go to Councillor Tyler’s chosen charities.

People can register online, a sponsorship form will then be sent via email. Queries can be emailed to mayoral ambassador Sue Randle, by calling 07412 531924. Entry fee is just £1 and is payable on arrival on the day.

The winter walk was held for the first time last year by former mayor, Councillor Mohammed Hanif. More than 100 people took part and over £500 was raised for his chosen charities.
