The mayor of Dudley presented a formally bound book of condolence for the Queen, to the borough archives this week.
The 130 page book contains more than 2000 contributions from people across the borough who took the time to share their thoughts on the passing of the Queen.
The individual books had been placed in borough libraries and some council buildings after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. After the period of mourning, these were collected, collated and formally bound before being presented to the archives, as instructed by the palace.
This comes just a week after the mayor received a letter from King Charles thanking her for a thoughtful message of condolence after the Queen’s passing last year. Councillor Sue Greenaway, the Mayor of Dudley, said:
“It was an honour to be involved in all of the commemorations for the passing of the Queen and the celebrations regarding the announcement of the new monarch.
“This was an historic moment in all of our lives, and creating the borough’s book of condolence means that we have captured a snapshot of people’s feelings at this singular timer and made them available forever.”
The Mayor presented the black leather bound book to archives staff and it is available to view by making an appointment at the borough archives.
The archives are open Tuesday 10am to 5pm and Wednesday to Saturday 10am to 4pm.
