Mayor hails great turnout for jubilee tea party

More than 100 people turned out for a special jubilee afternoon tea party with the Mayor of Dudley to honour the Queen.

The event at Dudley Town Hall was open to residents celebrating their 70th birthday between Feb 6 and June 2. The Mayor of Dudley, Sue Greenaway, said:

“It’s a privilege to be serving as Mayor during the Queen’s jubilee year, and we thought that hosting a tea party for people turning 70 during the 70th year of her reign would be a fitting tribute.

“We had a fantastic turnout with more than 100 people there, and I had a lovely afternoon meeting a lot of new people.”

The tea party is among a host of activities the council is organising to celebrate the jubilee.

Other events include the lighting of a beacon at Dudley Castle on June 2 and the waiving of fees for road closures for streets hosting street parties. More than 50 applications have been approved by council bosses.
