Lye makes Library of the Year shortlist

Lye Library in Dudley has been chosen as a finalist in The Bookseller’s Library of the Year award for 2025.

Recently reopened after major refurbishment, Lye Library is run by charitable social enterprise GLL on behalf of Dudley Council.

Dudley Libraries Partnership Manager, Stephanie Rhoden said: “To be shortlisted is a hugely prestigious honour and I congratulate our passionate and creative library staff for all that they do on a daily basis.

“The team works hard to develop creative projects that promote reading and support the needs of local people – which is what this accolade is all about.

“Thanks to its recent makeover, Lye Library offers a friendly, bright and welcoming venue that has something for everyone. From sitting in a comfortable chair reading a paper or meeting friends to watching your child have fun in one of the many activities offered, it’s a great place to recharge and relax.”

Councillor James Clinton, cabinet member responsible for libraries, added: “It’s really great to have the staff and service recognised in this way. Libraries are about community as much as they’re about books and computers.

“With the recent refurb, Lye Library is an even more welcoming space and continues to offer a host of activities including Rattle and Rhyme sessions for infants, Story Time, Lego Club, computer assistance and ancestry-focused sessions.”

The Bookseller runs the Library of the Year award in partnership with publisher Dorling Kindersley and charity The Reading Agency. Winners will be announced in May.
