Halesowen Town FC have announced the death of their club President, Colin Brookes at a fixture against Stratford Town yesterday evening.
In a stemement released this afternoon, the club said Brookes had died after being taken ill at the match.
They added: "It’s with real sadness that we have to announce the passing of our President Colin Brookes. He was at the match last night and was sadly taken ill.
"[He] did not recover despite all the efforts of Kyle Finn and James Kellerman’s Mums, Stratford Town FC, our medical team and the local paramedics."
Brookes had a long association with the team, and in his youth was one of England's top-rated teen players, scoring at Wembley for England Schoolboys against Wales in a team that also featured Nobby Stiles and legendary Arsenal goalkeeper, Bob Wilson.
After a lengthy career, Brookes went on to become a PC for West Midlands Police and along with his eldest daughter Karen rescued Halesowen Town in 2018, buying the club for £50,000.
Karen acted as chairwoman and Colin took on the roles of general manager, caretaker manager, Chairman and President.
The spokesperson added: "Everyone who knew [Colin] would know that if he had chosen a way to go, it would have been watching his beloved Yeltz and a quick passing.
"Our thoughts are with Karen and the family and all their friends at this time."
