Halesowen swimming pool reopens after a multi-million pound revamp

Cllr Simon Phipps at Halesowen Leisure Centre

Halesowen Leisure Centre completes its transformation today as its swimming pool reopens to the public.

The centre’s refurb also includes a new changing village, high-spec gym, soft play area, café and a wellness suite with power assisted gym equipment. The facility boasts two pools; a 25 metre, six-lane swimming pool and a learner pool, both with spectator provision.

It also has a large unisex changing village with accessible changing and toilet provision and a mechanical hoist on the poolside for disabled access into the pool.

Different session types are available for people who want to use the pools, including family, lane swimming and disability swimming sessions, with additional sessions being added to the programme in the following months. Councillor Simon Phipps, cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise, said:

“While the delays have been immensely frustrating for everyone, I am really pleased that we are finally in a position to get the pool back open again.

“We’ve had fantastic feedback from centre users on the other elements of the project and I know many customers can’t wait to get back in the pool, myself included.

“It is the last piece in the jigsaw of a major revamp which has transformed the facility inside and out. Along with the new £18m Duncan Edwards Leisure Centre in Dudley and improvements at Crystal in Stourbridge, it represents the biggest investment in leisure services the borough has seen for decades.”

Further information on swimming times can be found on the DB Leisure website.
