NHS Walsall Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is advising local residents that if they become unwell over the holidays GP and healthcare professional appointments will be available over Christmas and New Year.
Pre-booked appointments to see a GP or healthcare professional in Walsall can be made at one of four Extended Access Hubs by calling 01922 501999.
The Extended Access Hubs will be open throughout the festive holiday, including Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
The NHS is also reminding people if they have a minor illness like a cough, cold, aches and pains, that they can self-care at home or visit a pharmacist. Most pharmacies will have reduced opening hours over the bank holidays but some will be open on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Dr Anand Rischie, GP at Pleck Health Centre and Chair at NHS Walsall Clinical Commissioning Group said:
“Like any other day of the year people can become unwell so it is important that they know what health services are available over Christmas and New Year. Most health issues people experience this time of year can be dealt with at home or by seeing their pharmacist, GP or healthcare professional.
"If you are unsure of which service you need, you can always contact NHS 111 to speak to a trained advisor. It’s important that people only use A&E services for serious issues.”
