Former leisure centre site sold

A massive former leisure centre site in Dudley has been sold for £1.7m paving the way for a potential development.

The former Dudley Leisure Centre in Wellington Road has been sold to Halesowen-based developers Revelan.

The mothballed site has been stood empty for three years since the new Duncan Edwards Leisure Centre opened in 2022. The hope is that the site will be used for housing.

Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council, said: “This is a site of huge significance in the heart of Dudley and has so much potential for residential use.

“We have long said that we are committed to bringing these vacant sites back into use as part of our regeneration strategy and this is another step in that vision.

“It is almost three years to the day that the centre closed and I am delighted we have been able to open a new chapter for this key site.”

The 5.7 acre site is around the size of five football fields and was built in the 1970s. The leisure centre included a pool and a car park which have stood empty since the last sports moved to the state-of-the-art centre just a mile away.

Any housing development would be subject to planning permission.
