Council vow to 'listen and learn' after speaking to high-rise residents

Councillor Laura Taylor-Childs, cabinet member for housing and communities

Housing bosses have vowed to “listen and learn” from Dudley Council high rise tenants following an information gathering event.

Residents of two blocks of flats in Stourbridge attended an information day as part of the council’s bid to explore issues of high-rise living.

People living in Bailey Court and Kennedy Court in Green Street had the opportunity to share their views with council staff about what it is like living in high-rise developments. They offered feedback on services they thought were working well as well as ideas and suggestions about services that could be delivered differently.

Staff from the West Midlands Fire Service were also on hand with information and advice about fire safety and to offer guidance to people who cannot get themselves out of a building unaided. Councillor Laura Taylor-Childs, cabinet member for housing and communities, said:

"This event is the first in a new programme of initiatives to engage with residents and listen to their views as we strengthen ways in which we deliver local services to communities.

"We are committed to be more visible on our estates supporting residents and as we emerge from the pandemic it's an ideal time for us to re-engage with residents and to support local communities.

"We need to take every opportunity to listen and learn from people and ensure we use that information to make improvements to where people live.
The event was organised by the councils housing and communities’ teams on Thursday 26 May."
