Council House to light up to raise awareness of nervous system condition

Dudley Council House is to be lit up in purple on Tuesday 25 October to raise awareness of a debilitating nervous system condition.

The building will be illuminated to show support for people who are living with postural tachycardia syndrome (PoTS), which is a disorder that causes an abnormal increase in heart rate after sitting up or standing.

Symptoms of the condition include dizziness, breathlessness, chest pain, fainting, gastrointestinal issues and severe fatigue. Reports of people developing PoTS have increased following the COVID-19 pandemic.

The council house will be one of many local government buildings and landmarks around the country to be lit up in purple on PoTS Awareness Day, which is organised by the charity PoTS UK. Councillor Sue Greenaway, the Mayor of Dudley, said:

“PoTS UK are doing wonderful work to help GPs and hospital specialists to understand this condition, which can have such an awful impact on people’s everyday lives.

“We’re proud to help spread the message about this important cause by lighting up our Council House on PoTS Awareness Day.”
