Castle Hill exhibition on show at Dudley Library

Dudley Library is hosting the History of Castle Hill exhibition until the New Year, when it will be put on permanent display in Dudley Zoo.

Funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and commissioned by the zoo, the exhibition showcases Dudley Castle’s rich heritage – from its original motte and bailey structure in the eleventh century through to its rebuilding in the second half of the thirteenth century and its eventual destruction by fire in 1750.

Sharon Whitehouse, Library Manager, said: “The history of Dudley Castle is fascinating and anyone wanting to see the exhibition is welcome to come and see it whilst it’s in the library, during opening hours and when there isn’t an event on."

Originally on view at the Churchill Shopping Centre, the exhibition is temporarily housed in Dudley Library’s Reading Room.

Councillor Damian Corfield, cabinet member for neighbourhoods, added: “We’re delighted to host this fascinating exhibition at Dudley Library. It’s a wonderful opportunity for residents and visitors to explore the rich history of Castle Hill and Dudley Castle.

"Preserving and sharing our heritage is so important, and I’d encourage everyone to take the chance to see this display before it moves to its permanent home at Dudley Zoo.”

Operating under the Better brand, GLL is the not-for-profit social enterprise that runs Dudley Libraries on behalf of the council.
