A Birmingham man who was previously jailed for sending malicious communications to the Prime Minister has had his sentence extended after admitting sending a further letter to Birmingham MP, Jess Phillips.
Rakeem Malik, 55, was originally jailed in June 2020 after admitting sending letters containing threats to kill MPs Rosie Cooper and Jess Phillips between May 2019 and November 2019.
He also admitted sending malicious communications to the then Prime Minister Theresa May in September 2018 and PM Boris Johnson in December 2019.
He was charged on 4 August 2021 with sending another threatening letter to Ms Philips in November last year, and sending a threatening letter to a member of the public in the same month.
He was originally given a 10 year sentence made up of a five year prison sentence. But today he was told he will spend a further five years on licence as a result of the most recent charges.
Birmingham Crown Court also today ordered that Malik’s criminal behaviour order should remain in place for an indefinite period to prohibit contact with members of Parliament.
Malik was also given an indefinite restraining order not to communicate with the victims in this case.
