Audnam based charity and museum, ‘The Lace Guild’ is searching for a new Treasurer to join their “friendly band” of Trustees.

The organisation, which describes itself as an educational charity dedicated to the conservation of the past and to the development of the future, is based at The Hollies where The Lace Guild Museum hosts a large collection of lace and associated artefacts.

With the current treasurer due to leave in June, the charity is now on the search for a new treasurer to join its Board of Trustees and work alongside the existing Treasurer until the AGM in June to ensure a smooth handover of duties. Lace Guild Chair, Denise Smith, said:

“The Board of Trustees is a small friendly band with a common aim of keeping the traditional art of lacemaking going here in the UK and around the world.

“Our current treasurer has been in post for over 3 years and has served over the term of office to see us through our transformation into a CIO.

“She has worked hard and now wishes to step down at our next AGM on 3rd June 2023. She is a consummate professional and would love to be able to give the new treasurer a hand over period and be on hand to assist her successor”.  

The role would suit someone with a strong accounting background, and familiarity with Sage, online banking and a good working knowledge of Treasury would be an advantage.

The charity employs a part-time Accounts Assistant to deal with day-to-day bookkeeping, and monthly meetings take place via Zoom. Local ward councillor, Adam Davies said:

“Many people drive past The Lace Guild headquarters on Audnam without knowing what’s inside this lovely historic building and what the Guild do.

“But just like the beautiful traditional glass our area is famous for, lacemaking is another art that was hugely popular.

“There are more than 18.5 thousand pieces of lace inside the museum, thousands of books, and 2200 members around the world signed up to the magazine which is written here in this lovely old building which dates back to 1905.

“This is a great opportunity for someone new to get involved with this brilliant organisation and help keep the traditional art of lacemaking alive.”

The charity has recently begun working on an enrichment programme with King Edward VI College in Stourbridge and are keen to work with other local schools and colleges to introduce local young people to the traditional art which the charity is so passionate about.
