X Factor winner, turned Musical Theatre star, Alexandra Burke has been recognised for her 'unprecedented success' by Wolverhampton Grand Theatre.

In recognition of her significant contribution to local audience numbers in recent years, Alexandra was presented with an engraved seat plaque in row 'G' of the theatre's stalls.

Burke has visited the venue on two occasions since 2015. On her first run she played the lead role of Rachel Marron in the UK tour of The Bodyguard; a role she also performed in London's West End. She is currently starring as Deloris Van Cartier in Sister Act The Musical.

Between the shows, over 24,000 people have enjoyed two of the most successful touring Musical Theatre productions in Grand Theatre history.
 
Alexandra shot to fame on The X Factor, winning the fifth series in 2008. Following a number 1 album and 5 top ten singles, she turned her hand to musical theatre and has performed to critical claim around the UK. She said:
 
"Thank you so much to the Grand; I’ve got a name on my seat and I’m so happy! 

"I wish I could sit here and watch the show! I can’t, but it’s great!”
 
Seat plaques are a new way of recognising or celebrating people, stories and occasions at the Grand Theatre. Naming auditorium seats, or bricks in the theatre’s Encore Lounge, are a unique way to support the venue, whilst at the same time, shining a spotlight on a special message for yourself, a friend or family member and become part of the fabric of the 123 year old theatre.
